2013 Glo-CAF Award: Mikel heads for showdown with Yaya Toure, Drogba

 Nigeria’s John Obi Mikel will battle Ivorian pair, Yaya Toure and Didier Drogba for the 2013 Glo-CAF African Footballer of the Year Award.

The Confederation of Africa Football (CAF) announced on Tuesday that the trio had made the final list of nominees as Nigeria’s striker Emmanuel Emenike and goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama dropped out.

Sunday Mba, another Nigerian is in the race for honour as the Rangers International attacking midfieder has scaled the final hurdle for the African Footballer of the Year for players based in Africa.

However, he has Egyptian duo, Ahmed Fathy and Mohamed Abou Trika as obstacles to the title.

The winners will be announced on January 9 at the GLO-CAF Awards Gala to be held in Lagos, Nigeria.

Nwankwo Kanu, then of Arsenal FC of England, is the last Nigerian who won the African Footballer of The Year title way back in 1999.

Yaya Toure is the current holder of the title.
